Being alone

I know many people who like to work alone. In fact, even I like to work alone. Working independently gives you more time to focus and genuinely focus on issues. It helps you in learning a new skill and improving existing skills further. But we cannot deny a fact that working in team or collaborating with team members is a stronger skill that can strengthen your PR skills, understand people better, help you progress and guide you with firsthand knowledge and advice.

Intelligent people love working alone because it allows them to be in tune with their inner creative selves. They can introspect different issues in a field and even think out of the box. When there are so many people around, it is difficult to think quietly and creatively because there’s chaos all around.

Working alone puts you in control of decision making and workflow, which eliminates interpersonal conflicts and can increase productivity and job satisfaction.

Teamwork involves working together with a group of individuals towards a common objective. It emphasizes collaboration, cooperation, and mutual support. On the other hand, individual work requires working alone, taking sole responsibility for the task, and making independent decisions.

A study revealed that intelligent people prefer to be alone, tend to have fewer friends and they choose to be less social than those who scored less on the intelligence scale. Interestingly, they are contended fully in content and in sync with secluded lifestyle.

The more people work together, the more they can accomplish during each day. As a result, the quality of the final product is usually better – even if individual efforts are not wildly superior to each other.

Being a loner

I think anxiety may also lead to a preference for independent work. People with anxiety may feel more comfortable and in control when they are working alone. Anxiety can make people feel vulnerable and exposed, and working independently can provide a sense of safety and security that may be lacking in a group or team setting. This can be especially true for people who suffer from social anxiety, who may find it difficult to interact with others in a professional or social setting.

Also, people with anxiety may be more sensitive to criticism or negative feedback. When working in a group or team, it can be difficult to avoid criticism or negative feedback, which can be particularly challenging for people with anxiety. By working independently, people with anxiety may be able to avoid these types of situations, which can reduce their stress and anxiety levels.

I think some people having problems to work with group. They want things to go their ways and they can do better alone. They are not the flexible ones because they have their own systems, and they want to stick to these. Someone said: If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go with other. I want to go fast and far at the same time. It’s left to an intelligent individual’s choice whether to work individually or with a group. There are also geniuses, the creative mind level is higher than others, but they still need help from others to finish their projects.

Some people are loners. They are self-engrossed and prefer to be left alone.

Some of the recent scientific studies have found that people who receive higher education live longer than those who do not. What’s more, it also found that failing to obtain a high education could be as damaging to a person’s life as smoking cigarettes. According to a new study, reading books as well extend lifespan by up to 2 years, and the more often you read, the better.

The authors of one of such famous study include professors and research associates from the University of Colorado-Denver, New York University and the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill. This includes Patrick Krueger, who is an assistant professor in the Department of Health and Behavioral Sciences at the University of Colorado-Denver’s Anschutz Medical Campus and a member of the research faculty at the Institute of Behavioral Sciences at the University of Colorado-Boulder.

Education has received a renewed attention by researchers, because it endures throughout the life course and is open to policy intervention,” Krueger said in an email. “Annual income can change a lot from year to year. Although most individuals support policies to improve schools and to make education more easily reached, changing the distribution of income and wealth is more divisive.

One undeniable fact is of college professors: they live longer and remain intellectually agile much longer than the rest of the population. The reason is said to be they engage in research most of their lives for teaching, for publishing which increases their longevity and most importantly also slows down their ageing process. Because they mingle most of their lives with youngsters, they tend to remain young in heart and soul.

It’s no secret that over the last few decades, life expectancy in the United States has been rising. However, recent data shows that not everyone has benefited from this encouraging trend. A new finding from Harvard Medical School and Harvard University shows that individuals with more than 12 years of education have notably longer life expectancy than those who never went beyond high school. “We like to think that as we as a country get healthier, everyone benefits,” says David Cutler, dean for social sciences at the Faculty of Arts and Sciences at Harvard University.

Over the years, much attention has been paid to mortality rates based on socio-economic status, but less attention has been paid to recent trends in life expectancy, mortality, and education level. To understand recent mortality trends, David Cutler and John Meara of Harvard Medical School combined death certificate data with census population estimates and data from the National Longitudinal Mortality Study. Restricting analyses to whites and non-Hispanic blacks, the team created two separate data sets, one covering 1981-1988, and the other 1990-2000. In both data sets, life expectancy rose for individuals who had more than 12 years of education.

For example, comparing the 1980s to the 1990s, better educated individuals experienced nearly a year and a half of increased life expectancy, while the less educated experienced only half a year. For 1990-2000, life expectancy rose an additional 1.6 years for better educated, while remaining fixed for the less educated.

Let’s look at what benefits educated people? Educated people get routinely involved in social networking; they get access to information because of their ability to understand information. People with higher education feel like they have better ability to deal with adversity and have self-efficacy; they have more cognitive skills to manage any sort of complicated situation. They can easily navigate the health care system; they have more social support.

Another contributor to the study is Virginia Chang. Chang, an associate professor of public health at New York University and of population health at NYU School of Medicine, said education improves a person’s life in more ways than one, many of which are often unconsidered.

Reading helps us understand how other people think and feel. Reading improves our emotional intelligence. This understanding can improve the overall quality of a person’s life as it would allow the person to act with better judgment and more insight into the feelings and thought pattern of others. Research has shown that reading changes certain areas of the brain and activates certain other parts. According to neuroscientists, reading “rewires” those areas of the brain responsible for spoken language and vision. Hence, we see good readers with strong communication skills and cognitive intelligence. Reading can improve the functioning of the brain area that filters the massive amount of visual information that we see every day. This effect can also be observed in adults who learn to read much later in life.

Learning Has No Age Bar. Each and every human is born with a right to be educated irrespective of his or her age. So don’t hold back your urge to learn.

A person who likes to stay awake the whole night, till wee hours of morning, is called a night owl. He/she is also called an evening person or simply owl. The night owl tends to stay up until late at night. In several countries, especially in Scandinavia, early birds are called A-people and night owls are called B-people. Night owls who are involuntarily unable to fall asleep for several hours after a normal time may also have delayed sleep phase syndrome.

The scientific term for night owls is nocturnal which means a person who is active during the night. Charles Bukowski (a German-born American poet, novelist, and short story writer), Fidel Castro (Cuban Communist revolutionary and politician who governed the Republic of Cuba as Prime Minister from 1959 to 1976 and then as President from 1976 to 2008), Michael Chabon (American novelist and short story writer), Narendra Modi – Prime Minister of India, the late A.P.J.Abdul Kalam – former President of India, Winston Churchill (British politician, army officer, and writer, who was Prime Minister of the United Kingdom from 1940 to 1945 and again from 1951 to 1955) Bob Dylan (American singer-songwriter, author, and visual artist who has been a major figure in popular culture for six decades) Mukesh Ambani – an Indian Industrialist, Shahrukh Khan – the famous Indian actor are some famous nocturnal. Even, Barack Obama – the former President of USA is a self-proclaimed “night owl” While in office, the later hours were his alone time, either for work or watching ESPN.

The same motivation can ring true even for those of us who don’t navigate that busy or high pressure of a lifestyle. Whether it’s a crowded household or a noisy city, just the bout of everyone else going about their day can be off-putting, and sometimes alone time doesn’t feel like alone time unless the whole neighborhood goes to sleep.

Within broad genetic constraints, humans can choose what time to go to bed and get up. People who sleep at night and are active during day time are called diurnal. They are also called Morning Larks. Humans can choose to be night owls or morning larks. There are some individual differences in the circadian rhythm. What is it? Circadian rhythm is basically a 24-hour internal clock that is running in the background of your brain and cycles between sleepiness and alertness at regular intervals. It’s also known as your sleep/wake cycle.

Like people, some cities dismiss the notion that nights are meant for sleeping. From fast lifestyle to high-end facilities, these cities that never sleep have everything to boast of for entertainment. These cities remain awake till the wee hours of the morning; and all this for ensuring amusement. New York City, Paris, Cairo, Hong Kong, Mumbi, Madrid, Buenos Aires are some of the cities in world which have great night life activities.

If you are a nocturnal and the next time someone criticizes you for waking up late, remind that person that you’re not lazy, you are evolutionarily progressive. Night-time is for those who are creative, innovative and think out of the box. It seems nocturnal people who sleep and wake up late tend to be smarter. People with high intelligence are likelier to be night owls. This applies across a wide span of demographic variables, such as ethnicity, education, and religion. Night owls are mentally alert for a longer part of the day than early birds. Some people work better at midnight, they are authors, musicians, actors, visual artist, poets, researchers etc.

Some movies and songs are shot at night for various reasons such as: availability of actors, night scenes in the movie, lighting, crowd management becomes easier and some other technical reasons. The cast and crew need to keep awake through the night; especially the actors need to be kept happy for delivering strong performances consistently take-after-take. Imagine doing it all night, on a broken sleep schedule, and potentially outdoors in the cold. There are actors like Shaharukh Khan who prefer night schedules for shooting.

You shouldn’t feel like you have to work or sleep according to a preconceived notion of working hours. If you freelance or work independently, this shouldn’t be too difficult to achieve. If you work in a full-time job, see if your boss is open to the idea of you working remotely from time to time.

Some people are engaged in night employment; they do jobs at night which initially creates a misalignment between their internal clock and the outside world. When this happens, the body sends signals that conflict with the activities. Similarly, when somebody is not a nocturnal, and flies on a long flight across time zones, his/her internal clock will initially be out of sync with the external environment, but when the person wakes up, eats, and most importantly, exposes to light on the schedule of his new time zone, his internal clock eventually adjusts.

Conclusion: Whether you are nocturnal or diurnal listen to the energy level of your body and mind, do not take your energy for granted.

People get stuck while designing a logo for their new enterprises and also during rebranding an existing one. Logo gives a brand its identity therefore it requires lot of creativity, imagination and astuteness in designing. It is much more than picking nice colours and fonts. It takes a long time and it is a lengthy research process to design a logo. A designer needs to get into the attitude of the company he/she is creating the logo for, they need to analyse which colors, font, picture should be used to launch the logo because it is practically launched in people’s mindset. Logos should also suit the brand’s personality. People recognize brands by their logos, thus, they carry enduring value for consumers.

Here are few world famous brands and their hidden meaning.

The name Adidas is derived from that of its founder, Adolf Dassler. The company’s logo has changed over time, but it’s always included three stripes. The current configuration is three stripes at an angle which together form a triangle. It symbolises a mountain, which in turn represents the challenges which all athletes need to face and conquer.

Rob Jenoff the designer who created with the world-famous Apple company logo, has explained how he came up with the idea: he bought a whole bag of apples, placed them in a bowl, and spent time drawing them for a week, trying to break the image down into something simple. Taking a bite out of an apple was part of the experiment, and completely by coincidence he realised that ’bite’ sounded exactly the same as the computer term ’byte’. A byte is considered as a unit of memory size of computer. Wow!! What a coincidence, and creativity that is.

Amazon has been using its current logo for 18 years. The logo illustrates that company sells everything from A to Z. The arrow in the logo points from the “A” to the “Z”. The arrow at the bottom also symbolizes a smile, portraying that their customers are happy after using their service. The logo shows that Amazon can get anything for you at your doorstep; all you need is to log on their website.

The white and blue checker boxes represent a white/silver propeller blade spinning against a clear blue sky which portrays a happy drive on bright day. BMW logo also symbolizes the Bavarian flag colors which represents their origin. Also, it’s often supposed that the central part of the BMW logo symbolizes the rotating blades of an airplane, which are in line with the company’s earlier history of aviation technology.

The iconic Coca-Cola logo has changed many times over the past 126 years in design; however, you may be surprised to know the brand’s world-famous font of script and wave have always looked exactly as they do now. In the world-famous logo of the Coca-Cola Company, in the space between the letters ’O’ and ’L’, one can clearly see the Danish flag. The company has nonetheless used this as part of its marketing campaigns in the Scandinavian country. Just for the sake of the history of this brand, when it was introduced in 1885, it was marketed as a health tonic to cure a range of ills, including headaches, low sex drive and addiction. Coke started out with coca which is the extract of cocaine as a key ingredient, along with the kola nut. Hence it was named as Coca-Cola.

The FedEx logo was designed in 1994 by Linden Leader & Landor Associates, at first appears simple and straightforward. However, if you look at the white space between the “E” and “X” you can see a right-facing arrow. This “hidden” arrow was intended to be a subliminal symbol for speed and accuracy. FedEx assures on time and safe and sound delivery of courier.

The logo of Hyundai appears as “H” the first letter of the brand name. But, the South Korean conglomerate Hyundai’s logo symbolises two people: a client and a representative of the company shaking hands. People shake hands in contentment.

The logo of the South Korean electronics company LG portrays a person’s face, which is the central body region of sense. According to the company, the logo represents its aspiration to maintain everyday human relations with its customers intact. It believes in nurturing relationships with its customers which is a crucial part of growing a successful business.

The Pepsi logo portrays the globe with twirling red, white, & blue color design in a sphere-like shape. It is considered one of the world’s most recognizable corporate trademarks. It’s hard to believe, but Pepsi paid over a million dollars to create this special logo with its secret meanings. The new special design hints at mysterious and secretive themes, such as the Earth’s magnetic field, Feng shui, Pythagoras, geodynamics, the theory of relativity, and the golden ratio. The designer has explained that this logo also makes reference to the Mona Lisa, the Parthenon, and even René Descartes. The red, white and blue colors have always represented the American flag.

In 1990, Toyota debuted the three overlapping Ellipses logo on American vehicles. The Toyota Ellipses symbolize the unification of the hearts of our customers and the heart of Toyota products. The background space represents Toyota’s technological advancement and the boundless opportunities ahead.

I am sure many people like me must have wondered what the logo of Wikipedia means. Each piece bears a glyph (a character or a sign) symbolizing the multilingualism of Wikipedia. As with the Latin letter ‘W’, these glyphs are in most cases the first glyph or glyphs of the name “Wikipedia” rendered in that language. The empty space at the top represents the incomplete nature of the mission of Wikipedia; there are more articles and languages yet to be added. I find this logo most interesting. There are currently 301 language editions of Wikipedia. It is owned by Wikimedia Foundation.

Kiran Jonnalagadda cleared his inter college course after five attempts. And by the time he did it, his friends had completed their engineering course. For Kiran, his journey had just begun. This examination-shy boy’s name now features in the team that developed the Human Protein Reference Database by John Hopkins University. The five attempts to clear the pre university examinations did not dither Kiran’s spirit. We will find many Kirans in this mad, mad academic world.

Academic competence and intelligence are very complicated to measure the scope of a student’s aptitude. But the fact remains that we need some formal system to check the grasp of a student in a subject. We need divisions between ability levels and the amount of experience and knowledge students actually possess, otherwise students will be in environments unsuited to them and won’t be able to learn appropriately. There is no other way to divide them than by testing them in a fair and impartial manner. Exams are required from this point of view only and yes, they require clear and measurable guidelines. These guidelines must change to suit the environment. When guidelines are neither clear nor reckonable, students are deceived to believe their incapability. Do examinations test student’s innate abilities and potential? Or are we largely testing their test-taking ability, confidence and doggedness?

John Glenn, Astronaut emerged during the tense space race of the 1950s and 1960s. He was one man who represented the face of the Americans attempting to beat the Soviets into space and, ultimately, to the moon. John Glenn became a war hero and one of the most famous astronauts in history, despite being college dropout. Glenn attended Muskingum College, where he studied science, but when the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor he dropped out in order to fight in World War II. The world never saw Glenn’s academic progress sheet.

Do we accurately test students? They answer, give information or question intelligently what they are best at and what they are happiest with through the lectures in the classroom; teachers give them feedback during and after classes. Quarterly or monthly the parents/guardians of those students will receive report cards, showing which subjects their son/daughter is best at, and which they need the most help with. It will also be noted which subject classes are that child’s favorite. Parents and students must also be able to suggest ways in which their classes could be made better, so long as the suggestions are sensible, reasonable and that they contribute to the learning environment in such a way that the students learn more and at no cost to student-teacher and student-student relationships. If some students present more information than the teacher, how many teachers would like it? And, how many students appreciate their bright peers?

Intellectual exploration is hindered due to constant efforts of students towards mastering guess work, rote learning, memorizing the so called ‘standard’ methods of answering recurring questions that were originally set to test a student’s response to untried problems.

What our examination system does is – it encourages practicing past papers in the anticipation of mastering tests and not the subject. Tests do not encourage the search of knowledge as much as the pursuit of great grades. Education should free the mind not restrict it to guidelines that are not transparent. Let us get this rightly; subjective or qualitative papers with essay questions are not as easy to measure as mathematics or other quantitative papers. It requires entirely different yardsticks to assess them.

Regular examinations result in students working toward exams and exams only. They do not work in order to learn or to seek knowledge. Students learn just to get rid of those examinations. It becomes knowledge for the sake of passing the class, receiving an A or B grade. That’s about it. Whilst coursework may easily be cheated on, it is absurd to suggest that the only other way of testing a student’s abilities and knowledge is through examination.

Debates, discussions, case studies with active class participation are one of the most effective ways of learning and retaining information. When teachers motivate students to give their opinions and views, the students gain a deeper insight into their own arguments on a topic and the class benefits from listening to these views. It also gives them a glimpse to compare their views to their peers. Through this, they can amend their own opinions or form new ones. Class participation is a necessary requirement seeing as how even if one person refuses to engage in the discussion, their own ideas are never put to the test of both the peers and their teacher, and so receive no benefit for their own beliefs, and the class also receives no benefit from that particular student. Full class participation is an absolute requirement for refining the pedagogy.

Examinations should be conducted only annually, not more than that. If there are inconsistencies between one’s examination and one’s school work, then this must be investigated thoroughly.

I often think why school dropouts do better than the regular school goers – I suppose this happens because the dropouts have no ready plan, they don’t have a degree or a guaranteed job to fall back on. So they need to push themselves harder. A dropout therefore starts earlier.
A dropout faces harsh realities; he leaps forward with fears, doubts and worries and faces life head-on. For a dropout every day is an exam. Albert Einstein the man behind E=MC2; the man who came up with the theory of relativity; and the man who won a Nobel prize—was in fact a high school dropout. He attempted to get into university, but initially failed the entrance exams.

Lastly, we give undue importance to grades and examinations though they can’t determine if someone is intelligent or not. Grades aren’t everything. If someone has scored good grades, it still could mean that the person is dumb at many other things in life. Some youngsters score low, but are good at many a things and are practical people. So either way Grades can’t determine everything. If you cheat on something for instance you get a good grade but it could still mean you’re not that smart because you cheated. School exams only test mugging up skills and competitive exams test for advanced skills which you are hardly taught anywhere. And, exam results don’t determine success in life.

Is sense of humor related to intelligence?

Humor is one of the great mysteries of the human order. If you ask a hundred experts on why we laugh, there would likely be a hundred different answers. In the same vein, intelligence is also a mystery as it can project a whole host of definitions. So the question comes – is sense of humor related to intelligence? The answer to the question is ‘Yes.’ If you look at the newborn babies, they express laughter in the presence of positive external stimuli, but can be related to humor? Probably not in quite the same sense as we are likely to think of it. I think a true sense of humor comes with development of intellectual capacity. So in that context, humor is obviously a sign of intelligence.

I have observed that people who have good sense of humor are intelligent in their mental makeup. If you see the live comedy shows on television, most of the comedians are very good with their dialogue timings, they are attentive and well prepared. They know when and how to fill the gaps and the exact moments where to make people laugh. They are clever and good observers. They draw very intelligent inferences of incidents happening around the world, they can detect nuances in delivering serious matters in an amusing way. Basically comedians are observant and are gifted people; they fill the gaps. They are good actors. I suppose intelligence, helps in understanding other people. It also helps in upgrading abilities both mental and physical. Humorists are usually quite introspective; with a passionate curiosity for “why people do what they do” and this curiosity about people is strongly correlated with intelligence.

The great, talented and endowed people such as P.K.Atre, P.L.Deshpande in Marathi were so intelligent in their speeches that people would throng and the venues of their speeches would be jam-packed. Their speeches were well worded, humorous and very well timed. They had the abilities to crack vulgar jokes without vulgar words or vulgar gestures. In Hindi cinema Mehmood, Jhony Walker, Mukri, Agha, Om Prakash and of course Kishore Kumar were the great lot of intelligent actors who could combine subtleness with a splash of vulgarity in their intelligent dialogue delivery and superb timing. But, sadly today’s standup comedians don’t know where to draw a line; the more vulgar they speak, the less funny they sound.

It’s worth a recall that in 1960s comedians like Richard Pryor, Eddie Murphy and Lenny Bruce literally started a sexual revolution; their dialogues thrived on ‘F’ words. They liberated sexuality which was until then a forbidden topic. They could think outside the box. It’s worth recognizing the fact that since the audience usually thinks inside the box, there is surprise that you didn’t really understand where the joke was going – this surprise is what makes humor work. And this is why timing is so crucial to humor. It’s too fast, too subtle, and no one in the audience understands.

Friends if you can laugh and if you enjoy comedy thank your stars, because there are so many people, those who appear to have no sense of humor at all; there is an evidence that people who have suffered brain damage, particularly to the right hemisphere of the brain, are less able to understand jokes. Other people who have all their mental faculties intact still seem to have a problem with humor. They make what they think are jokes, while remaining unmindful to the fact that no-one is laughing. Trust me; being able to hang on to a sense of humor is an incredibly positive trait. Humor has fantastic coping mechanism and has a escalation cycle, because the more you are able to see the funny side and laugh off the difficulties in life the more stronger you become emotionally and mentally.

Humor allows us to see things from a different perspective; it is something that all the best cartoonists and comedians in the world do. If you look the happiest and most successful people around you, one thing worth knowing about them is that they don’t just stop at one way of looking at a situation; they explore other ways. That’s also the basis of cognitive behavioral therapy, which is very successful in treating all kinds of depression.

We always find humor only within our fellow human beings. We see laughter in some animal species, but that appears to be a different expression from humor. So if we were to presume this anthropocentric viewpoint, then we see at least a correlation between the two.

Humor helps us to accept our own flaws; self-acceptance doesn’t have to be hard work. We can develop some of our most enjoyable flaws. Humor helps us to find out when not to have the last word. Humor also helps us to get rid of being afraid to ask silly questions. Please don’t forget that the most perfect moments usually happen at the most imperfect time. Having a sense of humor works, it tells us that we are imperfect beings and I feel that intelligence is needed to recognize this imperfection in ourselves.

Life is so short and we want to do so much – our list of doing things is big. As such, we should learn how to make it through life with a minimum of negative emotions that tend to drag us down. By simmering in our emotions, particularly the more powerful and self-destructive ones, we are not only shortening our lifespan, we are also making what time we do have here on earth less than fulfilling. So friends, make efforts of laughing as much as possible. Watch more comedy movies and comedy dramas. Read a lot of funny novels. Share something silly about yourself with friends, laugh at yourself, and help your friends to get a laugh out of them.

Resume writing is an art

Rarely do we see resumes tailored to fit a job. Sure, many of the background and academic details tend to remain the same but in a good resumes the tone and accent changes. Rarely does peole pay attention to while writing their resume. You remain the same person, but your description, narrative changes with a new perspective depending on the job you are applying for. It is therefore advisable to constantly re-examine and refine your CV. A CV speaks volumes about us in absentia.

Over some time and with experience, while looking at your CV your presentation skill and technique for language will improve. Couple this to the natural self-confidence you develop during spells of employment and your CV should for sure reflect that. It’s all about refining what you say and how you say it in the most concise way, and you’ll be surprised how your perceptions evolve on different dimensions in CV.

Yes, your CV speaks volumes about who you are, how you think, your strengths and weaknesses – though we do not present our weaknesses. It gives an image of your finesse, your capability, your background, your skills, intelligence etc. Your CV should be confident. Employers not only want to hear about your appropriate successes but also why and how you’ve achieved them. This confidence however should not be presented in an over-stating manner. Nobody can ever be great without any substance. Avoid wordy jargon, exaggeration or buzzwords. Let your CV stand out by giving the helpful facts and figures. Give those hard evidences those which are self-explanatory. Don’t clutter your CV with too many things about yourself. Don’t lose the purpose in the midst of it. A good CV remains sharp and snappy for quick reference. Adopt the right tone throughout the CV.

Avoid pessimism: If you have had to face adversities, mention it with words such as “challenge”, faced. Also, do not shy to mention how you faced them. Avoid words such as “hate”, “quit”, or “disagreed” Alternative suitable phrases would be “overcame”, “influenced”, or “re-approached.”

If you are applying for a journalist’s job then your skills such as editing, writing, fluency over languages, your grasp to understand things, an eye for detail etc should be highlighted. Remember, one size doesn’t fit all; you will need different versions of your CV depending on whom it is aimed at. I often suggest people to avoid using standard templates. Instead, write it uniquely. Focus on relevant experience and transferable skills from previous jobs which you have learnt.

The HR manager looks out for some of these traits in your CV: they are enthusiasm, because enthusiasm drives employee engagement and innovation. Communication skills – no organization is able to compromise on importance communication in today’s globalized marketing environment. Next is creativity. Organizations crave for creative people. Thinking out of the box is an extraordinary quality. If you have it, write it foremost in your CV. In today’s age of entitlement and instant gratification, the critical concept of commitment stands out in a CV. Do present it in good words. Team spirit is very important in any field of life because it binds people together of different temperaments, different attitudes. If you can lead and activate people in group, trust me you have again an extra ordinary quality. Highlight it. HR managers look for another quality and that is openness to new ideas, new processes, and new people and so on. As corporations are ever changing entities, your ability to change with it is crucial. Your CV must speak how you adapted in the past and how you can do it again, if required.

One most important advice is keeping your research on; examine not only the work you want to do but where you want to work. When you find a job that you want to do and feel qualified to do, investigate the company, its culture as well as what is said and left unsaid about the company. Be sure about the work culture of the company. You should not land in soup.

And, also one of the hallmarks of your personality is emotional Intelligence. It is your ability to match the communication style with the organization through your CV, on email, on mobile or social media. Pay attention to not only the key words being used by the company in describing a position you are applying for but also how they have placed those words. Match their style so that you can spoon-feed them about your brilliance by helping them to see that you have the qualification, talent and experience they need.

So, let your CV have the following:

Contact details: It’s important to provide a range of up-to-date contact options including your home address, your main phone number and your email address to make it easy for employers to get in touch with you.

Employment history: Include the jobs that are relevant to the position you are applying for. If you haven’t had much applicable experience, be honest about it. However, you may express your interest by stating your grasping and learning abilities or you may want to include your entire work history.

Education and qualifications: Your education and qualifications may not be directly related to the job you are applying for, but they’re still important achievements that any employer will want to see. These days’ organizations are not too obsessed with educational qualifications. They prefer practicality of an individual.

Skills and strengths: Strength is something you’re naturally good at. A skill is something you acquire with education and experience. Make sure to express how your skills and strengths will help you to do well in the job.

References: Give references of people who know you fairly well and those who will speak on your behalf. You don’t have to include references in your CV and leaving them out will save you space, but make sure to state at the end of your CV that they are available on request.

If your CV is shortlisted and you are called for an interview, the interviewer might ask you to “walk him/her through your resume.” When you are asked to do so – you should be able to talk about each section of your resume in a linear, lucid, and enthusiastic fashion. Do not go too much in-depth into any one item. Do not bore the interviewer and do not remain superficial either. Touch on your academic, professional, leadership, technical, and personal qualifications, concluding with a statement about why these experiences are important for your industry.

Lastly, use a good simple format. Check and re-check spelling and punctuation. Keep sentences short to avoid confused punctuation and, if you can, give it to a friend to check it over. Spell check should be the very last thing you do before sending it off.

If you are not applying for some time now for a new job, take some time off and work on your CV – it’s worth it.
